Pantin and VT

I'm thinking of buying a Petzl Pantin to add to my VT set up. I'm thinking I should be able to climb arm over arm whilst pulling the slack through with the Pantin so I don't have to stop every few feet and pull it through one-handed.

Also fancy it for long ascents to save on upper body work after seeing recent G. Beranek rope walker vid.

Does/has anyone used this system?

Any comments welcome.

Yes, it works well, as long as there is enough rope below to pull the slack through but it doesn't need much. Can be put on over spike too. Is very handy but you'll be using one leg too much and you end up not just pullign the slack through because one leg is stronger than both your arms you end up usign your leg strength more.

if you are hanging away from the trunk you could just foot lock the tail of the line until you are high enough for the rope to self tend. :sneaky2:

or buy a pantin to stop the panting

Sorry! I must be tying it wrong 'cos I can't get my VT's to self-tend.

Did you see the other vid using 2 Pantins? That looked interesting and a lot less tiring on one leg.

That system looked excellent, but will try just one first.

I'm on 11.5mm Blaze, and the only time it will ever self tend is with the groundie pulling on it! Or with a 2nd pulley next to my ART saver.

How does that work?, the second pulley thing you mention? And what is an ART saver?

Excuse my ignorance!

I use the pantin and vt set-up, works well, although does fell a bit lopsided, thinking about buying a left footed one just to even things out , also been practising my foot looking recently, find it much more satisfying if you get a decent rhythm going, a lot to be said for the old school tec:001_cool:
