Is there a very small tracking device ,that could be put inside the cylinder head of an old chainsaw or mower engine ,if one removed the piston, and the whole of the item would act as the antenna for the device.

The idea being you have a dummy but tracker item, amongst your your kit.

I am sure such a device would be much appreciated by thieves!!!

I am disappointed nobody has replied as to whether you think it is a good idea or not.

Makes me wonder are many of you ???? and such a device would be against your interests.

Trackers I have come across will not work if surrounded by metal, not sure about aluminium. It would need an external antenna.

You can track an iPhone by GPS so why not a chainsaw, no external antenna on iPhone!

Other devices may be the same!

Miniture trackers!

Here goes.....

3 types available.

GPS based (sat nav technology)

GSM based ( mobile phone technology)

RF based. (Radio frequency)

GPS and GSM are widly available, and are relatively cheap. Both are the size of a glasses case But both are very battery hungry and need to be wired in for any life expectancy, they can be tracked via iPads and smart phone apps etc. RF is smaller, about the size of a large box of matches and uses much less power but you need expensive kit to track it.

All of the need to 'see the sky' to work correctly so positioning them is crucial. Not suitable for small kit really, more for vehicles and large plant etc.

Sorry there is nothing out there like you see in the spy movies😃

My phone can be tracked, it's smaller than a glasses case! Would imagine anything stolen would be noticed quickly, then tracked? Battery should cope with that surely?
