Mounting winches on pickups

Sort of went with this.

 

Got a winch, mounted it on a plate to clip onto a towball and fitted a detachable front towbar to the pickup. Now I can swap the winch between front and back of pickup and the back of the Iveco till I get the front towbar on that too, also any vehicle with a towbar.

 

Benefit being I just slip it off and it can't get nicked or rot in the elements, downside being I just know the day I get caught out it won't be on the right vehicle

Before you fit a winch tell your insurer because they are included in the "has the vehicle been modified an any way" question.

I've got a Superwinch Husky 10 with plasma rope - limit is about 5 ton but the plasma rope has a break limit of 14 tonnes....[ATTACH]174942[/ATTACH]

Only have to pull one pin and the whole lot comes off before driving on the public highway which obviously I always do , actually I do tend to as much for insurance purposes as anything else.

They've only had a mild moan twice in nearly seven years as it's only slight mis-spacing and not designed to nor does it evade ANPR. As one copper once said you never know when your going to drive past the one who wants to make a meal of it.

The plate on my tipper is buried under the flat to "keep it safe off road", bloody camera would need to be buried in the tarmac:laugh1:

from experience, tell your insurance company you have a winch and they seem to think you will be offroading and also makes vehicle more desirable to un desirables! But you should always infrom them!

 

Had a rear winch under the floor of a swb Landy exiting through rear crossmember, pulls you out of mud not into.

mine on the hilux, i use it loads. my insurance premium never moved when i told them it was fitted.
