Rowan is Witch Hazel is Witch Wood...... it has great thereputic values, but is defy a no go in superstitions, also white thorns, any timber in a ring fort..... any lone tree in ireland especially Whit thorn Blackthorn `Holly are considered farey trees..... Wouldn't even pick a twig off them, must be 15 ring forts locally, full of fallen timber..... never touched!

And never burn Elderberry in the house or there will be a death in the family. I planted a Rowan 25 years ago and it grew too big so I cut it down. This was about 4 years ago and I never gave it a thought but just the other day I caught my thumb in the door so you never know.

Alder as well in it? Something to do with the bleeding when you fell it. Can't quite recall the legend. I think with Elder you. Just have to apologise to the witch before you cut. I cleared half an acre last year in order to drag out some dead standing Elm. I apologised to every one (hopefully nobody was close by). Now I've got half an acre of elder coppice. Wondering what sort of crop of flowers and berries might be possible.
