upgrade time! What are the best all round towable chippers for genral tree work?

You don't need to stick to 750kg due to legal reasons but if your working in a Manchester are you thinking of 750kg due to small tight areas, pushing it on your own comfortably etc.

 

Do you find you un hitch to get a decent angle? If so then the turntable offering can save time and effort, safer roadside working etc. If you've never found this an issue then maybe stick to an inline due to simpler build and easier service access.

Damn right I will keep looking at other suppliers. The quadchip was the right price at the right time and had a turn table, I'm not saying its the best 750kg machine out there but it fit my requirements at the time. Since buying my quadchip timberwolf have released the 230, Forst seem to be rising in the market and in another 12 months when I change machines who knows what could be out there. There is nothing worse than blinkered people who will never look at anything else and swear blind their brand is better than everything else when they haven't run anything else to compare it to.

Im concerned about the effects the repayments will have on my life if I go brand spanking new on finance. Im thinking about getting another of the machine ive got, big old heavy sluggish greenmech chipmaster for around 3k. I'l make do and mend for a year or two and asess the arb community's reaction to the new timberwolf. If its shite I can always change my mind,sell it and go ahead with a finance deal. Or am I wasting time just delaying what i need to be doing at some point anyway? tough decision!

What's the Vermeer sub 750 like anyone?

 

 

We have the sub 750 Vermeer and we daily wish it was a Timberwolf! Hydraulics have burst the seal 3 times in 6 months from new! The design seams to be a afterthought as there is a shitty little stand in a really awkward place you have to wind down anytime it's off the van! The kill switch gets activated by a butterfly landing on it and it has a lever to control the feed roller speed which isn't in the best location and never gets used! + it's a bitch to reverse and things have started to fall off it! On a plus side the guys at Vermeer are great and have been very helpful the 5 times we have had to get it repaired in the last 6 months!

Can you easily afford say £300 a month to pay the finance even if you have a couple of slack months? I certainly noticed an increase in productivity with a modern age chipper, (I came from an entec), as well as a massive reduction in running costs and down time due to no breakdowns. One day lost due to a broken down chipper pays that months finance.

You've answered your own question! Get a new machine, move forward not sideways.

Anyway the reviews of the 230 seem universally good. I'm on record as telling people to justify their purchases but a reliable efficient 6" chipper is an absolute essential.
