I am permanently aware, that creating Monoliths for habitat is fraught with hazard where public have access.

With this in mind; height, species and revisitation are of great importance when considering leaving dead standing wood.

I have had two Willow trunks collapse, fortunately toward where I had left leaning weight away from targets.

Will be leaving any future Willow monos 3/4m max.

Here's a Beech that I've been keeping my eye on for a couple of years, and decided to reduce the height of it today.

This Tree was monolithed 7 years ago.

Been a veritable high rise habitat, so it has.

Reckon this could even have been 'the one' the Huck could not have climbed :sneaky2:

Pulled the top out one handed with a rope

Title is a nod in the direction of Herr Matthecks maximum mono height recommendation.

That is a cracking realistic looking fracture point left on top Dave!

Did any interesting little beasties emerge?

27 bats,

3 lesser spotted woodpecker chicks,

43 stag beetle grubs,

15 wood boring wasps,

17 miscelaneus creepy crawly type things

and what looked suspiciously like a partridge :confused1:
