Calm after the storm

Just finished a fourth day of sorting wind-damaged trees up here. When all you guys down south had that horrific weather and floods I was gutted for you and hopes we didn't see it. Just had the wettest autumn/early winter I can remember for years. The ground has now softened enough that the roots are lifting from trees that have been solid for years. Getting a drenching every day too.

You lads down south can take it back please!

Nothing came down on our land, though it's mainly mature oak and hornbeam so they're pretty darn hardy. Had a few dead elm and hawthorn that were smothered in ivy come down nearby, however; also had a very old elm come down a few months back in the strong wind, too. Shame.

 

Saying that, two years back one of our oaks (150+) fell. Still there, making great habitat as fallen mature deadwood.

What Jim said haha. Been out since Thursday night here, Today was a medium twin snapped out Douglas which was lodged in a large holly & a small twin birch over a conservatory. In the next couple of days were doing 3 large oaks 2 of which are half through someone's roof/ wall and well kept garden. There will be a video of that hopefully with the home owners permission of course.

Dead multi Stem pop uprooted & only been held up by the LV line & pole not to mention the stem snapped out sat on the line. Even more fun as the A50 was directly the other side of the fence!

Problem I am having is the ground is so wet, trees are being uprooted and falling over rather than being snapped off as such. Lost this nice fir next to a cabin on one site.

I would not be surprised if the current system moving in drops pressure rapidly and we have storm force winds affecting areas more south than last weeks damage caused in Scotland! ie: NIre, Mids, N & WWales, N Eng, S Sco.

average speeds 50mph already from Atlantic buouys West of Eire and the Low still deepening.

Pressure starting to drop here, been sat at 985 all day, now dropped to 982, oh, and its started snowing again

Tree inspection and nesting bird check early-doors on Salisbury Plain. Sunny, 3 degrees, force 3to4 with a hint of snow in the air. No damage - nice morning to be mixing with Red Kite, scurrying Pheasant and a few Robin singing in the hedgerows!
