Is my timber sales guy screwing me ?

This was our first sa;e of our black walnuts , had several buyers come first one offering 150 a tree, of which we never called back , finaly came across a gentleman that harvest your trees , then call for bids, NOw after lengthy speaking back and forth i got the feeling he was getting more then he was saying ,the beginning deal being us 60 he gets 40 percent, I just have this feeling the bids wer ehigher then he said with him collecting a lot more at our expens, he said the trees were worth 3000, but when the bids came in for the trees of 158 we were offered 40 leaving us 24 thous,

There a cartoon on here somewhere of a seller and buyer of black walnut which I think is spot on.

This is all a bit confusing, if he is offering a 60/40 split' how can he be screwing you, he is doing all the work and finding a buyer for 40%
