Been trying to find one for a while but they all go for silly money.

Pretty cool but they were known for breaking the chains that drive the portal axels or so I'm told.

Is it really a 110?

Doesn't look any longer than my 90.

Yes, but it's bobtailed compared to a normal 110 so there's less behind the axle.

 

Anyone know what make of portal axle was used on these?

This vehicle has been for sale on ebay a number of times over the last few years. Last asking price was £12k. It also featured in May 2012 Land Rover Monthly magazine.

 

If one wheel lost traction and then suddenly found grip, the chain drive in the portal axle would snap and apparently this did happen when the company were demonstrating to potential buyers. A number of councils bought them for use with gang mowers.

Get a Trantor, much more fun and even more silly money, I managed to break two prototype mk2 in 1980 before there release in 1983.

Currently having my defender fitted with a forklift instead of paying silly money to achieve the same result.
