Yes it's a business cost! My accountant claims for absolutely bloody everything businesses related and more than covers his costs in what I would loose if I tried to do it.

Yeah I wouldn't dream of doing it myself! Well I think all insurance is deductible! I was going to ask what's the percentage on advertising you can deduct??

You can claim against almost anything, as long as the % is accurate! If you buy a pair of £200 Oakleys for driving the truck as well as going your holidays you could feesabley claim a percentage.

BUT when you are sitting across from the tax investigator and he sees all these amateurish attempts at squeezing them he will dig and dig until he finds something you have missed.

Simple answer is get an accountant, they went to university for years to learn a profession that cannot be matched by a couple of posts on a forum by tree cutters.

Tree surgeons turned accountants. I wonder if accountants have a forum to air their woes on?:001_smile:

IT equipment, cloth washing, %heating costs as run office from home, token amount for electric at home, milage in wife's car as often go pricing in it, everything on my 3 vehicles, your allowed a certain amount for entertaining clients/employees so when I went out for a big pub meal with a few guy's I work with /for to discuss a future combined project I got told by my accountant to put it down as a legit expense.

Membership to trade organisation like the arb association, entry into trade shows like the apf, accommodation while at trade shows or training courses.

There is loades more that you'd never think of so as lots have said get an accountant which for your business model shouldn't cost that much and could or should save you more than the cost.

I do the VAT every quarter and then hand everything over to the accountant once a year for the tax return.

Because it's all in good shape as supplied to him charges are very reasonable and while I'm totally at ease with the VAT I'd never ever consider doing the income tax.

I also give the stuff to him in good time to get in ahead of the rush, my tax return was submitted in September!
