Really enjoyed that vid, great work. I too am not sold on the backbone, I like the idea in my head but can't get away from the fact it seems to easy for the sling to pop out if not allways under tension.

I like the look of the Backbone. It looks strong so in the event of an impact it should fine, where a carabiner may fail.

I'd get one if I didn't already have a big DMM rigging plate.

Cheers guy's, going to try and put together a video showing a bit of experimental stuff trying to get the slings to come off as of yet i haven't managed to.

A while back we crushed the barrel gate on a big dan crab which ment it couldn't be opened which slowed the job down till it was replaced with this that wouldn't have happened as no moving parts.

Great video and a very good efficient job. Just out of interest, how much did the crane cost? I can see the saving in time taken, but surely it added to the price of the job. If you you had rigged it all down yourself over maybe 3 days, surely your cut of the price would have been much greater.

 

The back bone looks like a good bit of kit. Similar to the Tree Angel Jonsie's sell, but it looks about ten times stronger.

Crane was £400 and would have cost a lot more than that in wages and time alone to spend the time rigging it down then having to disk down the last bit of stem /protect the stone flags around the house, carry everything out to where valtra could reach it or lots of trips with landy and trailers not to mention the extra time on site getting agro from a neighbour about the tree being removed (whole other story)

We don't do logs so the timber was sold and the bigger the bits the more we make as less time and fuel used in cutting it up for them

In that case my hat is off to you. £400 for that crane seems a bargain. If i were close by, I think I'd sell my climbing gear and get a regular customer deal with them. You're right, definately good value for the big toys!
