Sending someone a letter offering your services is low? Just targeted advertising.

No its taking work that others have already done the spade work on.

and if it's the householder who did the application?

:sneaky2:

Send it to the address in the paper, it's a letter, I'm not knocking on the door.

If I take work under the nose of the competition, so much the better.

Not something I do, but to be fair if you get building planning granted it's normal for builders and suppliers to offer a quote, no real difference, but you should get paid for your time/efforts.

I have no interest with being friends with my competitors, it's my reputation with clients I care about, not other tree firms.

I'll have a quick chat at the petrol station, admire (or laugh at) their gear.

I have a few that I sub for/they sub for me. We rub along ok.

We often quote the same jobs, I've even hired guys to help me on jobs they've quoted themselves (and vice versa)

About

Arbtalk.co.uk is a hub for the arboriculture industry in the UK.
If you're just starting out and you need business, equipment, tech or training support you're in the right place.  If you've done it, made it, got a van load of oily t-shirts and have decided to give something back by sharing your knowledge or wisdom,  then you're welcome too.
If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
Please have a look around, sign up, share and contribute the best you have.

See you inside.
