We've been through the weights and measures disscussion before about 3.5 ton arb trucks... I thought the conclusion was if you are running a 3.5 tonner it's better not to know....

sorry my mistake , i stop when the leaf springs are bent backwards , i guess you must wait till its down on the bump stops !!!

 

has anyone got a 7.5 ton lorry that they have down plated ??

I agree its best not to know. I weighed mine once when loaded - 4200 kgs!! Never gonna weigh it again!

 

Anyway I'm building a new truck from chassis using a lightweight tipper/box and now I know what the reality is of how little room there is to play with.

 

Next job is to weigh my current truck again empty, then again after the old chip box and soem surplus weight is removed to see how much that all weighed then try and build the new chip box for less, enough less to add a rolloer shutter tool box and still come under the factory weight of a crew cab and steel tipper. Thats my aim as I know a few companies that run crew cabs with steel tippers and they manage somehow.

My old transit crewcab, with the ply sides, average amount of tools, two men and one dog weighed 2650kg.

 

My new truck weighs 7600 kg empty, but thats another story.....

The crane driver on a big fell asked what the limit was on our old tranny once, after he'd lowered the second 1 ton lump into the back...

Weight saving is quite simple Rupe, just make the groundy walk home carrying the lowering kit.
