tree under and over power line

Doesn't work like that I'm afraid the tree can be clear of the powerlines let's say have a 2m clearance but it can still have a nasty over hang on it.

The customer can request to the network supplier to have the tree removed but they are not obliged to do so it all comes down to money and how many people are dependant on that feed.

Absolutely true but worth a try .

Walk away, i have no experience working around power lines we tried to get northern power grid to shut down some lines for us, cost me £30 in phone calls kept getting passed from pillar to post! in the end the customer said they decided to leave it for now :sneaky2: Sometimes its better to just say its not something we are willing to do, theirs always another job and you cannot do everything :thumbup1:

Definitely worth a go I once had a job clearing a 60' crack willow that went over in a storm & got hung rather precariously on another tree. The only straightforward way I could see to get it down without it either hitting a nearby transformer or going through the roof of the customers bungalow was by using a heavy duty winch which I couldn't lay my hands on quickly enough. I called scottish power & they turned up within an hour with a tractor mounted winch, had it on the ground 10 minutes later & I cleared up. Unfortunately i couldn't persuade them to pull the other trunk of that tree which the customer wanted down as a precautionary measure as it didn't pose an imminent risk so I had to dismantle that but at least the hard bit of the job was done for me for no cost.

We regularly deal with ERDF for line closures.

Last week we had them shut down a 3 phase low tension line for 3 hours. Enough for our No1. climber to dismantle a 30m Douglas which had grown within 3 metres of the lines and overhung by rather more.

We make a modest charge for the application which is payable separately from the main job (just in case we get blown out for some reason)

The application is made online but the arguing with the sourfaced bitches in the bureau is done over the phone normally the morning of the job when it is clear we HAVE been blown out by ERDF the gits...

"We can give you an hour" she say's.

WTF!!! It's a deserted farmhouse, there is no-one living there!

"An hour is all I can book you in for"

I long learned that the technician can't turn on the power once the climber is in the tree so the bureau's exigence over timing is all just so much hot air.

its well worth an ask, depending on how close the tree, they shouldn't refused, as by removing a tree which could still potentially damage there network, they will save in the long run.

explain that the tree has to come out and you cant do it safely. Even they decide not to remove it completely, they need to leave it in a state so you can do the remaining work safely with the power on. (ie removing any overhang)

good luck
