Teeth sharpening

Just wondering how you chaps out ther stump grinding are sharpening your teeth? I have a bench grinder with a green wheel that does ok, just a pain taking the teeth out all the time, anyone using one of the diamond blades in a small angle grinder from saturn machine knives and if you what they like?

 

They sound good, can sharpen teeth whilst in machine so saves a lot of hassle but at 70 quid a go i dont want to waste me dosh!

yep got pretty good, but dress the metal shank with standard wheel to get the shape back then use the diemond wheel to dress the tungstun bit does that make sence

Do ours in situ with diamond blade but the blade's losing diamond coating in one area very quickly. Beats all that green dust though.

but is a big road tow doing street tree stumps only hitting debris all the time

green wheel works fine for me ,i just let a few sets build up and do an hour or two ,i can sharpen about 10 15 sets in that time . it depends if your using a walk behind or not . if you are using a walk behind you do need a sharp machine all the time , if its a big selfpropelled machine you can use blunt teeth

if you want to see the state of teeth on our vermeer after a days street tree grinding i would challenge anyone to spend the time take them off sharpen them and re fit them for what a new tooth costs for how quickly it blunts them and with a hydraulic machine weighing 1.5 ton giving them a tickle is not worth it

 

After hitting a granit set or steel work there is not a lot left to bother sharpening

my mate changed the head of his carlton to circular teeth that you can turn 3 times and just hit in with a mallet, really good and simple. got a deal at the apf for a few hundred quid for a set and the changed head and tools
