Wood burning from the top down ...

I'v head it said , even said it myself , that wood burns from the top down and coal burns from the bottom up . I have been watching intently into my stove and can not see it happening this way . I see flames hovering above the logs but not touching them , presumably the gas burning off , but the actual consuming of the log seems to be from the underside . If you take the partially burnt wood out from an over night bonfire the unburnt bits seem to be charred on the underside and not the top so, whats it all about then ? :001_smile:

Knee is fine thanks . Been working . Off today coz TGB is coming down to pick up my big saw I sold him . Yea a bit board :biggrin:
