Chipper Course

Recommended Posts

Not only that mate, but you are actively encouraged in that direction-" go on , you've been taught, whats stopping you" attitude.

My wee brother is joining us as of next week now he has left school and will be going through his CS30 & 31 at the end of the month.... am explaining to him just now about how much he has to learn and what courses he will have to do before he can call himself a wood cutter!

LOL, seems you give someone a basic ticket and all of a sudden they want to be on the next series of Axe Men!

its a guy thing matt, i was exactly the same. wouldnt listen to anyone who knew best. the certificate went to my head and the instructor looked cooler than a cool thing. he had a 'jonsered turbo' chainsaw aswell. :001_cool:and drove a brand new landrover. he had obviously spent 20 years busting his gut in the woods and thought stuff this. started a rumout that tree cutting was awesome and all you need is a weeks course:sneaky2:i fell for it:001_tongue:

I think if you've got it you've got it sort of thing.... if you take to it naturally then you can amass alot of experience and knowledge in a reasonably short time period, like a year or two years but the basic ticket for me was just the stepping stone alowing me to get more experience and go to town on my felling cuts etc..... the courses that really opened my eyes were the CS32 medium trees and the windblow course... because I understood what I was being taught and had experienced it all previousley.

Having said all of that, I have CS 30, 31, 32, 34, 35, 38, 39, PA1, PA6, ATV, First Aid, Chipper, PTS, LKT and will shortly have rabbit gassing, CS 40, CS 41 and NPTC Thorough Examination - none of it makes me any good, it's the experience that makes or brakes you.

But I find I still never stop learning or challenging myself, and at the end of the day you can never have too much experience.. thats what I love so much about the work we do.... no two trees are the same and every day is slightly different.

Hi, the training is exactly the same as Lantra, only its assessed by the instructor, a chipper course off us costs £125, inc assessment fee and if the four course members are from the same company, a chipper if required. This only takes one day inc assessment.

That sounds a bit better..... is that £125 for the day for four people or £500 for the day for the lot?

Either way, we were told we had to get NPTC chipper tickets so that we can use them on te rail infrastructure.

I have an NPTC in chipper use, got it years ago iirc the guy came out asked a few questions watched us use the machine and that was it.

God knows what they teach you if you are there all day :scared1:

How about you read the chipper manual then someone tests you and it costs about £50, I would imagine that most of us would just go and get it done.
