You should always "check" that the chain brake works at full revs EVERY time you warm a saw up, surely. Thats what its there for, its a safety feature.??????

It's a safety feature but no point in abusing it. sure i can check it works but why put all that stress on the saw unnecessarily?

It's rare that you need to slam it on, let the rev's wind down then click it on.

stihls can take it, that is what they are designed for the drums and springs will give before the clutch ever will, i spend a lot of time with my groundie very close to me while i am cutting, passing branches holding bits of hedge, there is no issue of danger when i am on the break as quick, i tell all new workers not to come near unless the here the break going on, the same with working at height with the saw, when the groundiesa here the break going on its safe(unless told otherwise) small branches and twigs can jam the throttle quite easily while working in tight spaces, if you get in the habit of it you will be ok..

I think the chain break at full revs thing is more of a prob if you are still throttliing the saw when you slap it on, that wont help the clutch much.

Personally whenever I remember to use it gets slapped on whatever the chain speed, dont think I could ever be a**** to wait until the chain had slowed down!

tomorrow i will be mostly eating cake and drinking coffee watching the rain

Sounds like a plan!

In fact I think we all should stay off tomorrow in protest about the weather, then keep staying off until the government do something about it

Personally I blame all these environmentalists who keep banging on about air pollution etc and stopping us burning coal. I mean in the early 1900's there was loads of smog and pollution but it didnt rain nearly as much and the summers where always hot. Well thats what old people say :001_smile:
