finders fee ettiquette

Take each one as it comes, some want a pay off, if they tell you for instance that other firms have quoted a grand and if you go in at 900 you'll get it, that's worth a few notes.

On the other hand a mate down the pub mentioning that mrs miggins wants a quote for her tree, give her a call, that's just a beer.

We have a landscaper who passes us tree work and we pass our clients his details for landscaping projects, works both ways; we get the work he isn't interested in and he gets an introduction to our clients for projects we can't do.

Exactly the way I work :thumbup1:

I'm a specialist, I only do trees and hedges, so the guys who get me tree work get their number passed on for gardening, paving, fencing etc, works well IME.

So, if I passed you a grands worth of work you wouldn't give me a Oner?

A grands worth of work or a grands worth of profit? There's quite a difference! For a grand of profit I might bung a mate a oner - or cut him in on the work and give him the opportunity to earn a oner!

Got a mate who's a chippy, he saved us 1000's on our last kitchen, gave him a monkey to say thank you.

But in general, this whole 'finders fee' thing gives me the creeps, in my experience it's chancers in the pub trying it on because they are too idle to work themselves. It kind of sticks in my throat.

It's all good and well passing work back and forth, I do it a lot with lads who are in a similar sort of trade.

What work would you pass the likes of me(not at all linked to your industry) in return for me passing you a job?

I would not expect you to pass me work, also you would not be passing me work, your passing me a lead its still down to me to win the work.

I'm more than happy to pass on the numbers of good trades men and expect nothing in return.
