Hard time selling logs

This is the first winter i have started splitting logs up and selling them. They are sold in IBC cages that are stacked full, all are below 20%. The few people that have bought them are happy with the size and quality however i am having a hard time moving anymore, most people selling logs seem to be selling half empty bags of crappy unseasoned wood for £30! how do you compete with that.

HI SIMONM as some said just seat back and wait mate keep selling good seasoned logs THERES all ways some out there will buy the cheapest wood you have to keep with it MATE i no some times it hard but it will pay off in the end thanks jon

Felix is dead right . There is a saying that I cant remember now ...something about selling the unprofitable to the ungrateful .... Someone will come up with it in a mo I am sure . Stick to your guns ..

You cannot compete wit that they are probably getting the wood for nothing

as well.

how much volume in the cage is it all hardwood or softwood or mixed how much are you charging and does it include delivery. If you have just started it will take time to build a reputation and get a regular client list but if you stick to providing a quality product and a good service you should keep busy .

It is very mild at the moment but once we get a frost the phones will start ringing, winter has not started yet but it will come.

Cheers Chris

Sellers must realize that to joe public firewood is the last thing on their mind, they will put off buying logs for as long as they can, paying the rent mortgage, food, fuel, and household bills come way infront of having a good supply of firewood in place, think about it would you buy a tub of ice cream in march in readiness for a hot summer to come? In the retail business its all about getting into the minds of the customers habits and requirments,

The cage measures 1m wide by 1m high by 1.2 long, i know theirs more in a cage than a bag as we have done both. selling at £60 a cage all hard wood mostly Sycamore/Ash + delivery
