Putting Aspen in a second hand saw can I just fill it up and go?

I have bought a stihl 362 its a second hand 2010 model it previously had not been used with aspen fuel, previous owner mixed their own.

I only really want to use aspen as I am led to believe it's better for the user, machines and environment.

 

Is there anything I should do before putting aspen fuel in and starting it up or will it it be ok to just fill her up and go?

Machine generally looks ok theres no scoring on piston etc, there's no fuel in tank currently except for a little remnants.

 

Any help greatly appreciated thanks

Exactly what I've had done to all my older machines when converting to Aspen. I haven't had any problem at all but of course that's not the same as saying I would have had problems otherwise. But advice is as above; change fuel lines and diaphragm. The L screw will want turning out a fraction more.

Hi,

 

Good advise but you could just run Aspen and see if you need to change these parts as many people have switched to Aspen and not had any need to change any parts.

 

You may need to adjusted the idle stop screw (LA) and or the low speed mixture (L)

 

I would suggest you put aspen in and see "IF" you need to make any adjustments.

To be honest, in most cases you can just put Aspen in and go. So don't think you HAVE to do anything.

 

But as others have said, in some cases you may need a very slight retune. On a saw the age of yours you should not have to anything with the diaphragms and hoses UNLESS they need attention anyway as a result of exposure to very stale petrol.

 

Its probably not a bad idea to have a full service on a secondhand saw anyway, irrespective of which fuel you intend to use, and it does not cost much on top of a service to fit a carb kit.

 

I short, if you don't want to spend any money then just try it and see.

If you want to spend on a service then have the diaphragms done too.

On saws that have been exposed to pump fuel, you generally get a hardening of fuel lines causing eventual leaking of fuel. This is more down to the damage the pump fuel has done than the Aspen.

 

I usually change carb parts and fuel lines when converting saws as I preffer to ensure issues are stopped before they are.........issues:thumbup:
