technically they aren't cones on alders, they just look like them.

 

 

 

not all evergreens are softwoods and not all hardwoods are deciduous.

Isn't hardwood vs softwood something to do with the cellular structure of the wood?

 

I love softwood, it burns much hotter. Quicker growing, can be harvested and processed 100% mechanically. Instant heat, as others have said.

With this in mind you should pay at least a third less for a given volume of softwood over hardwood.

Why? It takes up the same size space in the yard, similar time to season, similar time to process, same space on the delivery vehicle.

 

I love burning softwood, it's pretty much all in using at the moment, mostly Lawson's and Scot's

I grow Larch, Dawn redwood and swamp cypress. All three coniferous trees, with needles that are deciduous. Are they hardwoods then?
