So you don't want to know what a pig in a poke is then:lol::lol::lol:

I do want to know! I hate feeling left out. :laugh1:

We make something called a pig in a blanket here. It's a hot dog wrapped in a slice of cheese, wrapped in a slice of white bread. Then baked until it is crispy and done. This is generally served at school, not at home for dinner.

To quote an American comedian on his trip to an English butchers...

"Where I come from you can't even say the word 'faggot' let alone buy a box of them!"

Means buying an unknown item/quantity.

A poke is a bag or paper container ( a poke of chips or a poke of sweets)

Hence it might or might not be a pig wriggling about in there:lol:

A poke was a sack. If you bought a pig in a poke it was likely to have been swapped for a cat by an untrustworthy trader. If you then opened the sack you were letting the cat out of the bag :D (exposing the truth)

A pig in a blanket over here is a cocktail sausage wrapped in bacon. At least I've only ever seen them as a cocktail sausage.
