Sorry for the slight derail but can anyone direct me to some threads on using a sling etc to move zz further away from you while ascending.

Im still getting used to mine and I added a strop to the zz to help me pull the rope through going up then found I couldn't quite reach the zz.

What do others use? a strop that's the right length?

Don't bother with an extra strop, just put a crol above the zigzag, attach a biner to bottom of the crol then put your climbing line through biner and pull. When you want to descend just detach crol and use zigzag as normal.

That sounds a good plan, I will give that a try- thanks.

I am quite old fashioned n don't like changing from how i was taught with prussic and double rope and it took a while to try new things like the zz, at first I was unsure if they were any better or not.

Its hard to judge at first, but I think the truth tells when you go back to old ways and realise how much easier these devices make it, not surprised my elbows are knackered.

thanks for the replies guys.

If you try it you have to push the crol up when your zigzag reaches it anyway so it a lot like a Prussic just less work, also you can use one handed after you get used to it. Give it a go. It works really well.

Just trying to picture it in my mind- could you not put the croll on the other static rope then you wouldn't have to touch it?

Ascending without a foot ascender is like using a bow saw.

The CT one is miles better than the Pantin.

Zero kick out.

Another big fan of the CT foot ascender here. As mark says the rope won't unclip itself unlike the petzl version.
