Gearbox lubrication/grease

Help. I have a Stihl FS76 strimmer/brush cutter. I need to change or top up the grease/oil in the bevel gear box, I have done this several times in the past, but when I went to order a tube of grease from my Stihl agent he informed my that the cost has gone up to over £10 for a 80gram tube. What a rip off.

Has any member any suggestions for an alternative product??:confused1:

I have seen adaptor plugs that do have a grease nipple set in to a plug that simply screws in to the original hole. You just take one out, grease and then swap back - they were on ebay.

Grease wise - the destroyer of gearboxes is LACK of grease and any gtease is better than none but Lithium HT grease - the type you pack in to wheel bearings will be fine.

Any ideas as to the thread size for the gearbox plug, I will need to get 1, I don't want to guess the sizes nor purchase a selection of sizes, any help would be welcome.

if you have the plug already drill a 5mm hole in it tap it to 6mm and fit a grease nipple
