Every tree is different.

I've had an 880 with a 4' up about 3 times, years ago. Low down, cutting thin rings in a non existent drop zone. Good for the ego at the time.

I agree a 460 with a 2' bar would have been lighter, but by that stage I really didn't feel like scampering round the butt.

I think especially on some final picks on crane jobs it's nice to know the bar will extend the cuts.

Dan Curtis had some pics up with him using a harness (Sequoia?) with the optional shoulder straps, which would really ease the pain.

ASCENDING with an 880? Why would you?

TBH, I wouldn't worry too much. It's a pretty rare occurrence you need a saw that big up a tree.

It's a sequoia srt with the basic petzl top. I have used big saws countless times in trees, since using the full body harness I've wondered how the hell I used to do without it. It puts the weight through your back into your feet rather than trying to pull your harness off.
