Current prices for Cordwood

Round these parts those advertising Firewood appear to consider it clever to undercut those who are sensible enough to try to raise the base price, especially for hardwood. Hardwood should be 100/tonne minimum and we should all stop offering 100% hardwood - those in the business all know the many reasons why.

 

If everyone used their intelligence they would realise that they should all be reading from the same page - that way we all win as we start getting a realistic price for timber and those mechanically and manually harvesting the crop make a half decent living also.

 

At the moment most of us are just static due to the overheads of running our respective businesses and if something large goes bang, we are inclined to think - is it worth it.

£100 relates to logs delivered to end user.

 

They are fetching way more than that already, in fact many are charging well over double.

Getting £130 an m3 here can't cut if fast enough to replenish stock if some mug wants to sell it for 85 let em carry on. If the phone keeps ringing like it is it will be £140 to be honest the more I charge the more the phone rings

Incredible. We have the highest roundwood prices down here (or so it would seem) and the lowest price delivered logs at circa £60-80 for 1m3. Deprived area - devon and cornwall :001_rolleyes:

Make the most of all this hardwood as its just not sustainable. I don't see any replanting happening. We will be lucky to be cutting hardwood in 10 years tops. So maybe we should get in to the softwood reluctant or not.

Got "into" it 5 years ago; I reckon softwood will be in short supply soon too. Mixed is the only way and the production of s/w supposed to peak in 2050 but as per all predictions, too optimistic.

Personally I would not pay that, I'd buy coal first, it would work out cheaper.

 

I have no idea how people can afford to heat their homes buying hard wood.

 

A mate of mine sells logs, but heats his house with coal, it makes sense for him to sell his logs and buy coal.
