I didn't mention anything about being over weight & the complications associated so not quite sure why you quoted my post.

There are ways of running a smaller vehicle without being overweight, you just have to be smart about it.

Some have little choice but to use 3.5 tonners as it is costly to obtain ops licence & maintain a larger vehicle.

Its was the above statement that prompted my reply Kenty because we all know that a 3.5 ton truck with a tank of fuel, tools, passengers , heavier body and two twigs will be overweight. If someone has "little choice" or not I was pointing out that the 99.9% of 3.5 tonners used in this game run overweight other than when they are going to the job and the implications of being caught are in some cases more expensive than getting a bigger truck .

Thats my point - thats not a lot of chip. So, if youre doing small trees its ok. Get into the bigger stuff or even a lot of conifer and youre tipping every hr. Sorry, but I dont get it. Obviously Im wrong because 80% of tree bods use them.

You're not wrong. I think most just fall into the category of either:

ignorance,

don't care,

have multiple tip sites within 10 minutes drive if every job,

drivers licensing for staff.

I'm in the last two groups but it really isn't ideal and the next chipper or truck change may prompt the move to something bigger, or a mid size bin lorry.

My transit tipper comes in at 2.200 without me so the payload is1.200 ish. I also have a cabstar at 1.820 empty but is a single rear wheel so gross weight is 3.400. Twin wheel knocks the gross up to 3.5 but the weight of the wheels probably cancels this out.Not sure of the train weights.

So, why not stick the chipper on the truck and chip into a trailer?

Bolt a turntable chipper on the back of a Landover, should be plenty of load cap left on the vehicle for tools etc.

Stick a tipping trailer behind it and you've got 2.5t load cap.

If your worried about access add a front mounted towbar.

Sorted.
