Self employed tractor drivers rates

Minimum wage seems to = little hassle

skilled working man £10 with lots of hassle. Lots of engineers have left our trade due to driving hassles and never ending h&s paper work which most of the time serves absolutely no purpose but to keep the paper clip counters in a job.

I'm on a lot more than £10 an hour (subbing in, mind) and I'm thinking of getting out of the engineering job. Travel, H&S and paper work is just the beginning of things. I think I have secured myself two days a week working on a local estate and another day, maybe two working with a local pipe fitter .

Too many young bucks coming up all the time to raise rates for tractor driving.

Many of them do it for the cool factor and accept the crap wage. These days they're all on FB and the like showing off what they're driving. Seems that's more important than getting paid what the job really deserves.

Thanks all. Useful to no what others think. The new boss is the owner's son. She's 97 he's 66 ish ex doctor(was asked to leave the profession) and owns a third of the farm along with his sister and old bosses partner. He's spent most of his time high on weed and hated his family ripping up the land. His idea of farming is sitting on a ride on backwards harvesting his wild grass seed (he's told us all this). Great bloke to work for if you like being a yes man and stabbed in the back

I honestly cant believe skilled guys are driving, self employed, for around the 10-12 quid mark. Ive done a lot of it, £15 an hr for me minimum and £26 for me and my tractor (farmer supplies fuel). Especially if you gave given them 15yrs service you need to be asking more if your good at what you do.

In farming you have to remember one thing, if you ain't the farmers son, or to become his son inlaw, you are merely a number. Loyalty counts for nothing.

If you don't like it, move on. For sure there'll be another farmer around the corner willing to let you earn his living for him.

Couldnt agree more with that. Loyalty means nothing now. Dad was made redundant last yr after 45yrs working for same farmer. Was disgusting how they got shot of dad.

Funny old boy that farmer your dad worked for. He only got all that he got by the stroke of a pen.
