SRT rope

Cougar on the bone. Not tried the Kernmaster with mine as it is pretty worn. I don't reckon it would grab.

I think it's the bounce that would put me off as I usually work on a base anchor.

My main reason for choosing the Cougar Blue is because it doesn't stretch.

A bit of bounce is good though, not to much.

 

I have 2 lots of cougar one is static as hell the other much like any other good en1891 rope

Overtime though the static cougar has relaxed into a more semi static feel which is nice.

 

I've had tachyons that are nice and wear well and others that become horribly bouncy in a short time.

 

Never 2 ropes the same even if they are the same role if that makes sense.

 

One thing I found with really static ropes like dyneema (not recommended!) is they can be harsh on your knees so some give well helps to reduce stress and fatigue and if a little slip happens you have some absorption.

 

Yale did a test with 20,000lb'ish static ultrex if I recall correctly v 6,000lb semi static climbing line like Yale xtc, the ultrex failed at 1400 lb (100kgs falling 6ft) where as the 6000lb XTC survived multiple falls.

Makes me often wonder why we use tenex for rigging where a weaker dynamic rope would be more suitable.

I have used a few different ropes, my favourite so far is any of the Yale 11.7mm, but, and it's a big but, it has to be the American version!! Different construction to the EU ropes, less stretch. Perfect for the roperunner, also the velocity is worth a mention too, I have moved away from static ropes completely now. This is my latest rope from treestuff.com

We have just started stocking teufelberger Fly for SRT, red and white 11.1mm, seems a really nice rope but have yet to have feedback, anyone using it?

Does that mean you've used it as a doubled rope system?

Isn't it a bit skinny to grip easily?

What do you like about it so much?

yep doubled rope. Its an old rope, been around for years. And it doesn't feel anything like 11.1mm in the hand, more like 11.7mm really.

And as to why I like it so much, I guess because at the time I was using it I found a real sweet combination between that and some cheap as chips marlow double braid I found at the local chandlers. Keep meaning to buy some more.

Im just starting to get in to the SRT thing after my first dismal attempts a few years ago. I like the Rope Wrench as i can quickly switch back to DRT and back - first ascent on SRT - switch to DRT to advance the anchor and then once ive got my top anchor make a choice between the two depending on the job. IS there a rope that works well for both? - right now im using Yalke Poison Ivy - i like the rope but it does feel a bit bouncy when on the SRT.
