What a load of tosh. It's difficult enough to follow as a trained professional. How a DIYer would interpret it is open to much speculation. I'd venture that if someone came a cropper following their 'advice' and using their tools a decent QC could make a case for The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 or similar.

Felling a tree is easy though! Getting it to go where you want is the skilled bit, otherwise nobody would bugger it up and get tree surgeons. We need people to bugger up attempts to reiterate why we are needed in the first place!

I was given some Birch about a foot thick trunk recently and when I went to fetch it the woman told me her brother had cut the tree down with an axe. It was in a field so it didn't really matter where it landed but it would have been easier with a saw.

He had prob bought hissel a Granfors Brucks and simply needed to play with it!

It is as easy, or hard, to fell a tree, as it is to drive competently!

Both merely require a modicum of brain function and physical coordination.

Loving this, Firstly, reading through this, I first mis-read it as HSE not HSS which made me chuckle, then the photo has a huge split in the face of the previous cut, which you can see is from the lack of the undercut from the cut he's in the process of completing. After that, it doesn't state if it's a hand axe or a full length axe for the height estimation (I can see a **** up there alone). After that, I'm lost on the second cut, the fourth seems odd, and I cannae get my saw back in for the final cut because the pry bar is blocking the cut, oh, and it's been knocked in by Timmy Mallet. I reckon that whoever wrote this had a book, but no idea what it was telling him or he to do. I doubt they've ever knocked over more than a sapling.
