cheers - from germany - wolf

They must have different payloads in Germany. The current single cab D-Max as sold in UK has a 1,136kg gross payload. That includes fuel but not a driver or a chip box, tool box, tipper etc. You'd be lucky to have 800kg payload with driver in UK with that set up. The current Ford Ranger has 200kg higher payload. As far as I can tell that's the only 4x4 pick up (apart from Land Rover) you can use properly with a tipper / box and a reasonable payload in UK.

Does anyone know of any company that will (legally) uprate the payload capacity of 4x4 pick ups in UK (e.g. to 3.5 ton GVW)? I would much prefer to buy another 2nd hand Hilux than a new Ford Ranger...

Very nice Eddie, is the hilux the 3.0? Auto? How'd you rate it?

Yer its the 3.0 manual great truck properly the best Ive had. does about 31 mpg (425 miles to a tank) pulls really well very quick for a truck. Loads of room in the truck & the back seats. Does not know the chipper is on the back & will pull over 2 ton nicely :thumbup1:

31s good! is that mixed driving and towing? Have you had any problems with yours?

Yep mixed driving & towing the chipper. The only problem I had was with the fuel filter but this was a recall & did it for free. I've done 45k miles now & it has not missed a beat! I had a service done last week oil, filter etc.. & the front pads done for £190!

Here is my truck and 6 inch. Haven't had this set up very long, seems to work okay for me, will eventually build a better bin, but bodged this one up on Sunday so I can get a few extra cubes in. Looks a bit pony, but definitely stop me from being overloaded haha!

Lucky we can drive up to 6000kg's GVM on a car license here.. Almost imported a transit but glad I didn't now as this truck has a bit more scope for the future if I want to get a bigger chipper, though most of my work is small currently.
