Fuel measurement : Pump or split can?

A working collegue has been preparing 5 litre fuel mixes by the split can mark.

Today after a very brief run my MS260 stopped running efficiently.

Checked the plug and it was scorching...I reckon i have been running a lean mix, and now have a damaged saw.

Changed all the fuel over for a new mix by the petrol pump gauge.

other kit seems fine at end of day.

Any thoughts on petrol can expansion/contraction and litre innacuracy?

and your preffered means of reference for fuel amount.

Thanks.

You are more likely to get the oil charge wrong than the actual petrol. 100ml of fuel won't make a blind bit of difference where 10ml of oil would.

All those that insist on using 5.00 litres of petrol how do you ensure you are using exactly 100ml of oil?

I buy the Stihl 100ml shots. Easy, no mess, £1 each. Pour it in, then leave the bottle upside down in the spout of the can for a few moments to make sure you get it all.

You can fill the petrol first but you have to slosh a bit round the oil cup after and re-add it, back into the can. If you add the oil first, the fuel mixes everything together. The other way round and you have to give the premix a good shake afterwards.

If the mix has been standing a while, say overnight, give the can a good shake at the start of the day.

And someone has to say it... or you could use Aspen 2T.

I'll just stand over there in the corner and await the stoning.
