Whats up with this cherry? Malicious?

Sorry for the common name usage. Prunus cerasifera pissards plum is a variety 'pissardii'

 

Also commonly called cherry plum and available with both green and purple foliage varieties. Think it used to be called P.pissardii til a few years back but Collins field guide, 2004 has it as a variety now. Page 340

 

Ah, I'd missed that particular change - I always knew it as P.pissardi. I wish botanists would just make up their minds though (been ploughing through the elms lately which make the challenge of keeping up with prunus pale into insignificance :001_smile:)

I can imagine, these young uns only have to learn the current names, we older chaps learnt what they were called- then have to keep up with the new name s too.:lol:

Sometimes referred to as 'pissards horrible' there very susceptible to fungal attack ,look for root damage next door ,how old is the tree? Most of then have had enough by about 40 years old!!

 

Will check thoughly next door when next back, stems a fair size 14" plus from memory.
