550 co oil leak/crack.

Hi all. I just wondered if anyone had experienced this problem before. My Husqvarna 550xp has cracked and developed an oil leak. Is there any way back from this i.e. Warrrenty repair.

Looks like the chain has picked something up and thrown it against the tank . Had that happen to a 372 once and it punched a hole right through .

I did . Not too pretty but I drilled and tapped ( with small BA screws , thats how long ago it was !) an aluminum plate on a bed of JB weld . The sprayed it orange .

my 394xp is weeping oil out of a split in the casings just under the exhaust. i can't really tell in your photo if its where the casing meets or a seperate crack/split. let us know if you manage to fix it. and anyone know about an fix for oil leak from casing - other than splitting casing which i hear would take a bit of time.

drain out the oil and clean with thinners and rough up a bit with course emery cloth and repair it with Belzona which is an epoxy paste which I have repaired cracked engine blocks with so it should work!! it has to be spotless though:thumbup1:

I have repaired similar with liquid glass fibre resin inside the de-greased tank but it needs to be spotless.

 

The outside can be repaired as Stubby says - aluminium plate with JB weld sandwich and mechanical fixing - won't be pretty but it will save a scrap saw!
