Hi,

ย

Does anyone run a large vehicle with a crane registered as 'special vehicle' (mobile crane I think). I've had a good trawl through the dvla and vosa web sites to try an find out the limitations on its use.

ย

Anyone know the rules? Or have link to the appropriate web page?

ย

Cheers

Do you mean registered as Agg like a Mog or siomilar ?

Posted

Cheers but I'm reasonably happy with agri registering, although if you know if there is distance restriction would be handy, getting an answer from the dvla is a nightmare.

ย

Anyway, the truck I'm looking at has a atlas crane so could be registered as a mobile crane, therefore no O licence etc. But, I think it limits what you can carry and tow etc, which you mean you couldn't use it as a chip truck. I think...

ย

Any ideas.

Treequip, fair one 😁😁, getting an o licence isn't a big deal from what I've seen. But I'm a bit stubborn and what to try to keep cost down. Tbh, I can't see how an o licence etc can be avoided without limiting the vehicles utility.

ย

Next do I need a tacho....

Hi, if it's registered as a 'special vehicle' then you cant carry any load, but if I remember rightly there is no mileage restriction.

ย

That's what thought but, buggered if I can find the regulations. I also think you could tow the chipper though (not great for a chip truck)😁😁

Hi Mark,

I have this registered as a special vehicle 'Tower Crane'

Its run on white with a calabrated tacho, This enables a trailer of direct connection to the crane. No hire/rewards/loads/chip trailer.

ย

Can go on motorway with beacons on. No mileage restriction, no 'O' licence. Though a duty of care inspections and obviously loler.

ย

HGV required for this vehicle.

ย

I know there are varying set ups, this suits us.
