It's a two way tipper, no point having the option of rear tip. Just as easy to build as any other tipper really, you just need the right fittings to make the hinges on both sides.

All good stuff. I've been getting insurance quotes they seem to range between £1000-2000. This seems a bit high for a vehicle that's only going to be 5000 miles a year. I've no HGV ncb which is part of the problem.

I got a quote off NFU for £700 for a grafter 7.5 for two 25 year olds, that seems steep unless you're younger?

If you want a full size 2 axle lorry get an 18 tonner, the footprint and turning circle will be the same from 14-18 tonnes, you just get more payload. If you want a crane then definitely get an 18 tonner.

 

If you want something smaller but more useful than a 7.5 tonne then look at 10-12 tonne, similar size but more payload.

 

I run 18 tonne with rear mount palfinger crane and rotating grapple, and side tip chip box that holds 20 cubic metres. I rarely need to tip off during the day. As for getting the truck to the tree, I park on the road and use the mini loader to bring the tree to the chipper.

 

This is exactly the route I should have taken when I bought a Unimog.

Having said that, I really did need the off road ability then but I don't need it these days.

I have just been looking at the new Fuso 4x4 Canter, looks a nice truck. Its a 6.5 tonner so would need I licence. Is it a costly thing the O licence?

Not really hodge 700 quid or so and a few hoops to jump through, this is the w a y I would like to go but the other stumbling block is the younger ones cant drive anything over 3.5t. This country makes things so hard.

iirc you first o licence is about £1500 or so, it on the dvla web site. Yet more up front costs!

 

Old Mill, I need an off road ability, which is why I'm thinking of a Bedford TM 4x4, but I think it will cost a lot to buy, convert it etc. How was the mog? Are they limited on pay load ( weight and volume) or are they OK. The TM with a crane has a payload of 8t.

I don't know what I am missing here, when I did it, it wasn't expensive or difficult.

Other than that you have some minor costs for the advert and a little admin.

 

So the first 5 years is about £130.00 a year for the first 5 and £80.00 per year after that.
