I used to enjoy a drink or two, maybe more , but I always had a rule that I wouldn't drink on a work night, if I went to the pub on a Saturday, I didn't go on the road next day. Easy for me now, I'm teetotal, though I try not to preach

Like others I won't make excuses for you but that really is a tough lesson for a margin of 5 on the 'under/over' breath test scale.

I am amazed running a business with scoring 40 they took you off the road. I have come across people 2nd offence blowing 80 odd. They grizzle about loosing their business and get away with no ban and a big fine. Drink driving is bad news but you may of only had a pint but at least you never hurt anyone.

Having one or two on a work night is no real biggy IMO. But be careful, I got pulled at about half six on a Sunday morning twenty plus years ago, breathalised (sp) licence lost for 14 months, can't remember what I blew but it was enough to get me banned.

 

I'll add that the Saturday before was an all-dayer that end at about 9pm.

Really? A ban is mandatory unless there are 'exceptional circumstances'. Losing your job as a result of the ban isn't 'exceptional'.

But perhaps those blowing 80 weren't actually driving... just sitting in the seat with the keys in the ignition perhaps? Then a ban would be discretionary.
