As a fairly young man and a former apprentice i do realise and appreciate the time, effort and of course financial input that employers and senior members of staff put in. To be honest i am embarressed by my generation as they have no long term thought. Grass is always greener and all that. However i am sure you will find an apprentice that will restore your faith in the next generation. After all we will be paying your pensions.

Good-on-ya! Good posts from several current or previous apprentices.

How much were you paying your lad ?

I very quickly realised if you got a keeper up the wages or they walk and having a good groundy is as essential to having a good climber in are work so worth every penny.

I have an apprentice currently, he's severely dyspraxic, and has quite severe aspergers syndrome.

I've set hem the task of cutting me 30 framing pegs, a job that would take me 2 hours or so, on a comfy outdoor chair with a pint.

He's been doing that for three days now and has made 20 or so that could be usable.

I think he's still learning from it though, as am I.

What I'm trying to say is that you have to think why you have an apprentice rather than an employee. What do you want out of the deal and what do you think you are offering them?

Should get a girl! I would love am opportunity like this I have all my tickets, just need to have the opportunity to climb more. Were I'm working now all the jobs are landscaping.

If you lived down here Amy I'd probably offer you a good job because girls generally don't grow macho egos like dumb blokes do.
