Blast it with an airline

:dito:

Plus a good paint brush will push out stuck in dust and grime.

Plastics i tend to soak in Fairy washing up liquid and then blast with the air line and that shifts yet more dirt.

Have used petrol, brush cleaner, Cif (Jif as many would know it used to be called :sneaky2: ) and wd40 on some parts in the past to shift ground in dirt but always rinsed and blow gun dried.

The secret to both my 365 Specials lasting me 10 years on their original top ends, and still going strong?

Every time I fuel them, or any of my saws, they get a thorough cleaning, both caps and air cleaners using Co2 bottles in my tooltruck like compressed air.

That and using only the highest octane fuels I can buy in my mix makes for excellent increased saw life in my experience.

Take casings off cover the saw in de greaser and blast off with a jetwash works a treat. Don't do it with the saw running.

I use and airline and GT85/carb cleaner. The jetwash method may get it clean but I have seen alloy corrosion and rusting of the clutch/needle bearing sometimes happening as quick as 24 hrs.

If you do get water on a saw, it is important to get it hot very soon after and spray the clutch etc with a lubricant - the recoil spring also suffers badly to water!
