New Stihl online policy

Stihl dealer in Scotland

If all dealers offered an online service and they were all roughly around a similar price there would be no need for anyone not to buy local, with the convenience of getting it delivered and being able to drop it in for any repairs, the dealer gets his share of the market, everyone is happy.

If Stihl and Husky offer warranty but dealers refuse to honour them .....

Where does that leave Stihl n Husky ?

S&H need to make warranty work profitable for their dealers, then they will be fighting for the work......

Sounds like more accountants chopping away costs ...... I'd guess there is always underlying threat of taking agency away from retailer/repairers to keep them working at low rates...

Is this not roughly what the big giant balls of Stihl have decided to do?

An online portal sort of shop where you can buy online from your local dealer at rrp....

The small issue us that it goes against free market rules and kills competition between dealers. Competition that keeps products available at a good price, and keeps the market healthy.

This would be highly illegal under competition rules and it wouldnt be long before Stihl ended up in court.

A similar example to this is Festool who were dictating to their dealers the prices and if any of them cut the price they soon lost their dealership. It took a few complaints and their fine in court ended up in the millions. There is competition now in that market and dealers are free to set their own price. Still vastly overpriced in my opinion but that's a different argument. At least their quality is top notch and I haven't heard anyone complain about it, unlike the quality of some Stihl products!

No what I meant was if all the dealers were competitive and moved with the times to keep their business current instead of moaning about more successful businesses and grassing them up stihl would never have had to put this stupid policy in place. Everyone would have bought local with the option of delivery or collection and everyone's a winner. Ok there might not have been as much profit per sale but there would have been more sales to make up for it, more parts sales and more repairs.
