Hello everyone, I've been lurking in the background for a couple of weeks now, and decided to start contributing what little knowledge I have. I'm learning a lot from the forum, which makes me realise and appreciate what an excellent and varied subject tree care is. It makes me glad to be involved.

 

Background is (in a nutshell) 1 year working self-employed in arb, 3 years working as outdoor countryside maintenance/hedging/fencing/agricultural contractor, 2 years sheep farmer. Previous to that I was an engineering consultant for 7 years (!).

Hi all,

Just letting you know I'm here. Not in forestry, but in valeting (cars, buses, coaches etc.) I want to move into this kind of work & will welcome any advice.

 

I have an application in with an arborist fairly local to me, but he apparently has a long list of names........a VERY long list of names:ohmy:

Good news is that he is not calling anyone who doesn't drive. Due to his location, any employee needs to get to work in the first place, which is not an easy option with public transport. May call the local council as they have a team so may get chainsaw ticket through them. I own a Ryobi 4545 petrol saw,(18in" bar) and seem to get on with it ok. I was a volunteer at my local Nature Reserve a few years ago & learned a little bit about forestry work when we were felling trees. I was clearing the ground & talking to the full time staff, who were fully trained. As it may be time to change direction, I thought maybe I can do this...Here's hoping.
