I used a Hinowa lightlift 19.25 for 1.5 yrs doing kotorway and council work, its a good machine but very slow!! also quite wobbly and dosent have a great outreach, but at nearly 20m tall it can get most stuff if yo can track to it!! the main cuircit board went and there where a few electrical problems i experenced! once it cut out on lane 1 of the M50 and my foreman had to wait untill the early hours in the morning to have it recovered!!!!

i read this report before i posted up, it actually dosent say you cant use a top handle it on the ground!!

haha this is true, i still believe silkys are more dangerous than chainsaws! i have 3 scarrs on my left hand and 2 on my left arm from silkys!! one required 4 stiches!

true! how can the hse fine you when your just trying to carry out a BS3998 pruning cut? im pretty sure it will give a better cut than a husky with 20" bar! but yeah i work in a company that does a lot of highways council work, so i guess il just sweat it out with the silky instead!! its a bit of a grey area really! thanks for the posts guys!

Hi all, im having a bit of a disagreement with a guy at work, he is a grass cutter and dosent know anything about tree surgery but is 2nd foreman!, ive been a tree surgoen (climber+groundsman) for nearly 9 years now and have a level 3 qualification, but he dosent allow me to use a top handle saw on the ground! but for pruning cuts on trees (for limbs bigger than silky size) you get a far better cut than using a groundsaw! dispite in my last 8 years of tree surgery both my previous bosses allowed me to use top handle saws on hedge reductions from the ground and on banks or generally where its safer to use a more compact saw i know top handle saws are for tree climbing only but can they be used for ground based pruning, does anyone know what the law says about this? afag and the hse websites dont cover it! cheers Alex

Ive used one of the first ones that was made!, it has been back over 10 times to get fixed! a very unreliable chipper, very poorly built, i advise you steer clear of buying one, yeah ok there turntable and under 750 kilos but thats where the good points end! Greenmech are very poorly built get something, anything german!!

Hi there last week we where working in a garden in chippenham and i had my climbing kit nicked :-( i had a komet dragonfly harness, XTC 13mm red rope, 3 Karabieners a strop and 3 prussics all in a black waterproof bag with a fish on the front! very anoying, i dont really climb much but i need it for ariel rescue :-( ah well just how it is!

Should be alrite once its worn in tho! my old rope was quite slipperey when it was new aswell!

Hi there! ive just bought some new rope, i asked for 13 mm but ive just got home and its 11mm will it be any different to climb with easer/harder? thanks!

My college had one of those holder tractors! i used to drive it all the time, there really powerfull and manuverable!!

I got a blackthorn really deep in my finger once, it made my whole finger swell up really big for a month then i had it cut out at the hospital and had 3 stitches! i get them all over my fingers and arms whilst chipping! allways when i take my gauntlets off!! the best thing to do is keep a really sharp knife on you at all times! and as soon as you feel a thorn, cut it out and squeese the area really hard as soon as you can, the longer you leave in in your skin the worse it gets, believe me!!

Hello! ive been looking around at jobs and tree surveying really appeals to me!, ive done a 2yr ND in forestry/arb and ive worked for a large tree surgery for about 3 yrs now,but now i want to progress and go into tree surveying, the problem is all the tree surveying jobs ask for experence of tree surveying techniques, what courses would help me to become a tree surveyer? and what else can i do to be more employable? many thanks in advance alex:001_smile:

the council wanted stubs for kids to climb up, the tree has had arrows, the sun, moon, stars and a crocodile carved into it it looks really cool! also steps have been carved in the bottom of the stem!!

hi there! im from bristol and the job is up near the youth hostel in minehead, at work weve got a tracked 9" and a pto 9" but fuel costs getting them down to minehead would be too much!! we only need a chipper for 2-3 days, if you could pm me your mate robs number that would be cool! many thanks alex :-)

Yeah! it was for south glous apparently then are planning another 22 whole trees moved, but there having trouble finding suitable trees that are accessable for a crane, i only put a few photos up as i dont want to bore evryone with 170ish!!!

the oak was in winterbourne in bristol and we escorted it down the ring road with all the flashey lights going!!! to hanham common (we got so many funny looks!!) i got paid to take photos all day i took 175 photos and videos!!!! getting it off the trailor was dodgey, we loosened the straps and tried to winch it off with the lorry then we tried revving the tractor foward! in the end we had to cut it in half and use the hand winch as it put a big dent in the back of the trailor and lifted the tractor up in the air the farmer was not happy!!!

hello! me and my mate are doing a weeks work in his woodland in the summer just above minehead does anyone know where i can hire either a 6" tracked chipper, or a pto tractor chipper around that area? many thanks alex :-)
