How is this damage not purely cosmetic?

 

It's not like your two bar studs are affected. Once the cover's on who would even know it'd been damaged?

 

Why not clean the affected surfaces and slather on a nice thick layer of Marine Tex epoxy which is oil resistant and commonly used to repair gas tanks?

Nah Jomoco, it needs a better/stronger repair than epoxy. Tig Welding is the answer me tinks.:001_smile:

Turns out that getting it tig welded was problematic :thumbdown:

 

Took it to a local fabricator and he tried everything but apparently no matter what he did he couldnt get a decent weld on it - probably due to the composition of the alloy it's made of he rekons :confused1:

 

In any case I need to look at other options...

 

If anyone happens to have a 357 crankcase assembly knocking about? :call2:

 

I know that it would be easier to get a new saw, but I like the 357 and it would be a shame to throw this one away as its a good engine! :001_smile:
