yes that's true i gave 18 3inch by 14 inch x10 inch blanks away to people that was restoring a wind mill

hornbeam was the traditional timber used as it has superior wear resistance to anything else that grows in Britain but lots of local timbers were used if they were hard, pear, holly, apple, blackthorn, hawthorn, box, beech, elm and strawberry tree have all been used in the odd occasion.

Where are you based CHC. I know some guys who are always after apple wood to make charcoal with. Depending on distance they may be interested.

I'm trying to get round to selling it as fire wood as we have a fruit farm and are replacing a load of the trees and have a lot of it lye about the place

i am after a couple of bits to make a mallet if near.

To be fair, i like trees, especially fruit trees. Pick fruit from tree, give to woman, apple crumble for tea. Everyone a winner. I will try and put it back up. Do i need to put anything around the roots or just pull it up, stake and tie it and heel the mud around the base?
