Tricky one.

I like the idea of a common market, but I dislike the bureaucratic and undemocratic attempts to create a united states of Europe by stealth.

That Euro MPs cannot introduce legislation tells you everything you need to know about the democratic intentions of the unelected Euro commissioners .

On balance I am an "Out". The attempts at scaremongering about jobs and trade etc is a nonsense imho. The wealth of this country will be a significant lever when it comes to negotiating free trade agreements.

I use the same argument for Europe as I do for Independence for Scotland. Are the Germans and French etc going to stop selling us BMW, Mercedes and Citroen cars if we aren't in the EU. Are they going to stop buying whisky etc if we aren't in the EU. Don't think so.

The EU as an institution is one of the most corrupt and unaccountable bodies you could ever imagine and then multiply that by 100! They have not had their accounts signed off by the auditors in years - try doing that as a business and see what the tax man says. They want to micromanage every aspect of your life and are succeeding with layers and layers of red tape. Its jobs for the boys, just look at Peter Mandelson. I could go on and on. I struggle to think of any good things that have come from that. They should have left it at the EFTA.

Clegg knows which side his bread will be buttered on in future as well.

Can't see him having much of a future in UK politics after the next election anyway and if he thought the sparing with Farage would revive his fortunes he misjudged very very badly.

On the similarities with Scottish independence I don't really agree. To start with, the UK still has it's own currency, Scotland doesn't. It would actually be more like saying that if the UK had the Euro, that we could break away from the EU and still continue to use it.

Firstly you couldn't, and secondly you wouldn't want to!

The irony of-course is that the independence movement want away from the UK but want to remain part of the EU. Then again maybe they'd prefer Scotland was open to Romanians and Bulgarians than Welsh, English, or Northern Irish.

Sorry to be so blunt but anyone thinks it will be just as easy to trade with Europe from outside Europe is living in cloudcuckooland. Better to stay in and change it than get out.

This subject hass been raised before, by me in the scottish independence thread. BAsically if this thread's poll is any indication of UK intention we will be out of Europe within a couple of years, and so will Scotland if it doesn't get independence because no matter how Scotland viotes in a Euro referendum its influence will be lost in the English based vote.

So I'm not only pro-European but I am now back to voting for Scotland to be independent so that we are not screwed by England dragging UK out of Europe.

I deal with export markets all round the globe, it is as simple to deal ex EU as intra.

As for Scottish independence, why the SNP wish to part from Uk where we have shared currency, culture, language, achievements etc yet jump headlong into EU where we have nothing in common is beyond me. No SNP member has yet been able to give satisfactory answer why ties to Westminster should be cut but attachment to Brussels increased.

Cheers

Rubbish!!

They said that about our not changing to the Euro, there was going to be a "two speed EU" with us left in the slow lane………………..well it worked out somewhat differently didn't it :sneaky2:
