Husqvarna and Stihl HP Ultra

Stihl HP Ultra is rated at JASO FB,whatever that is.

Husqvarna clearly states in their manual for the 550/60 etc to use this spec of oil at 33:1.

This is how I shall use it until I get the appropriate oil,but do you think this is a little bit of gamesmanship.

HP is rated at FB whereas HP Ultra is FD, I think!:001_huh::001_smile:

HP is a mineral oil and ultra a fully synthetic.

On speaking to a few people in the know and a few customer experiences I would recommend running the stihl m-tronic/ husky autotune saws on the middle of the range oils, ie Stihl HP Super or Husqvarna Low Smoke+.

They are both semi synthetic and rated at JASO FD.

HI JIM the green stuff will be fine.

Good to see you finally bought one, you will like it.:thumbup1:

Read the manual though and set the autotune, its not critical that you do it right away ie you wont screw it up but it is advisable to get it sorted.

Actually the other way round Mark

HP Ultra, apparently their finest oil, is only FB rated.

whereas

HP Super, a cheaper oil is rated FD

Both are fully synthetic

Standard HP is mineral oil based and also FB

Now, I really do not get it, we are told time and time again that the highest FD ratings are the best, yet Stihl's best is only FB.

Many cheaper oils from other brands are much higher spec, but not all are good oils.

I suspect that the F ratings are only a small part of the story, but it is a bit of a minefield and from experience we know that some so called highly spec'd oils offer little engine protection.

  • Thanks 1
