Fairly new to all this tree stuff but am i right in thinking you have to be careful with yew wood? Did i recall a case in paper where a young lad died from alkaloid something or other from dealing with yew. I am probably wrong but any thoughts welcomed.

Ah right, okay. Thank you for clearing that up. So long as you have your dinner before you start and wear a dust mask when sanding, which i would think is good practise when sanding any wood, should be alright. Apologises for my lack of knowledge on this subject, im new to this and if you dont ask you dont know, but what good qualities does yew have? What would you use it for?

fantastic timber, both for turning and furniture.

All timber is toxic in particulate form.

yeah, but apparently yew wood contains taxine same as the foliage and seeds which is toxic to your heart, obviously all wood dust is bad for your lungs anyway so shouldn't be breathing it in in the first place, and I imagine you'd have to breath a lot in to die from the toxins.. nice wood, made a few knife handles out of it.
