What drill for tree stumps?

Hi all,

I have about 200-300 tree stumps to drill for eco plugging, through a woodland site about 20 miles from our yard. Im looking for a suitable cordless drill that will be upto the job without losing power after 5 mins, ive tried with an 18v drill but flattened 2 batteries in about 10mins. Any suggestions?

I guess the secret is to get the batteries with the highest Ah rating for the voltage. For example, the total energy stored in a 1 Ah 24V battery should be the same as a 2 Ah 12V battery.

I occasionally have t take cores of tres with an auger bit. I am seriously thinking of converting one of the dud batteries on my Makita to a connection to a car battery. Not very portable but for roadside trees needing 6 300mm cores the weight isn't a problem and that much wet wood drilling will kill a Makita 14.4V 1.3 Ah battery after 3 cores.

In my experience it's just as much about how sharp the drill bit is and what timber you're drilling into. I tend to carry a number of spare drill bits with me and change as soon as the edge starts to go; at some point I'll get round to sharpening those up. But to answer your question, I use a Hitachi 18v with two spare batteries, so far no real issues
