Hey Ant Petrol Augers are ok on Farmland / Woodland areas . Although they are crap on dometic jobs as the tend to find gas pipes , water pipies and even cables ? :001_smile:

Yeah, thats what I thought! Never hurts to get a second opinion! Hows the chipper doing!?

Looks interesting! Did you get one in the UK?

I bought it brand new form a builder who bought a scaffold tower from me.

It was a real coincidence,I had been trying to locate one for a long time and when he opened the van to load the scaffold it was in the back so I made him an offer he could not refuse and was worth every penny

the spirit level in the pic is 4ft long

Yep, they're hard slugging. A better way with hand tools is to get both a clam shovel and a 5' long steel, pry bar. You start the hole with a spade, to about 1'deep, then drive the clam shovel down, lifting out bits of dirt. The bar is for bashing stones out to where they can be grabbed with the clam shovel. Also hard slugging, but way faster than with a hand auger. I found that in glacial till soil with lots of stones, it's the only way to do it, even better than with a tractor mounted post holer attachment.

The trick is to find the Zen of post hole digging... Ohmmmm.

Any chance of a photo of the digging head? I think I see how it works.
